The Real Housewives of Benton County: Betsy Billman- “Money Mama”

Money, money, money! It’s that topic that can make a couple go from snuggles to sassy within seconds. It is the thing we don’t want to think or stress about, but most of us do. If I am perfectly honest, I would have to admit that I am neither horrible with money nor great with […]

The Real Housewives of Benton County: Elisabeth Parker: Keeping the Faith

I met Elizabeth 4 years ago when she took Baby Class with her first son Judah. Elisabeth has this warm and calming presence. She is a good person. She is a good mama. And.. Elisabeth has been faithful and hopeful during some very difficult trials. Elisabeth has been an amazing example to me of someone […]

From my experience, I would change the last bullet to *don’t* ask what you can do to help. When people asked me that I would say, “We are doing okay. We don’t need anything.” What worked better for me was when Jesse said, “we are starting a meal train. Is Monday, Wednesday, Friday enough? Or do you need more?” (Note the Love and Logic strategy of giving a choice where both outcomes are acceptable. :) ) Or when my mom asked me to think about when she could fly down and then just bought a ticket anyway. Or when Katy said, “I want to do a garage sale and give you the money. You don’t have to help. I just wanted you to know.” I could go on and on about my family, my coworkers, and my friends. You get the idea.

You’re totally right, Rachel. It was awesome when people said, “We’re going to set up a Caring Bridge, fund, meal train, etc. for your family…” because people like my husband and I have a hard time accepting help, and that way, we couldn’t say no :)

The Real Housewives of Benton County: Sara Egbert “Mother Nature”

I am so excited to be back doing this interview series! Although this is a project that I simply did not have time to continue as my schedule got busier, it never left my heart. With so much focus these days on what is wrong with the world, I want to show evidence of all […]

Thanks for the interview, Kara. I’m glad I met this great mama while she was here this summer. She does exude that comfortable feel toward nature, her kids and other people that you can sense in this interview. I’m excited to read more interviews in the future!

Sara - August 11, 2014 - 3:16 pm

Kara and Chris- Thank you so much for capturing my kiddos and I in word and pictures. You two are such a dynamic duo with your love of people and beauty.

Elisabeth - August 11, 2014 - 4:01 pm

When Sara and I were friends as high schoolers, we got to spend a week traveling in Italy with our choir. During that week Sara taught me to embrace silliness, and just to enjoy life and to take myself much less seriously. As a mother, there is so much more she could teach me about lightening up and embracing the dirt :) Wish you lived in Corvallis full time, Sara! Thank you for making such a positive impact on my life when we were kids…and for continuing to inspire me!

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: Leonne Bannister-Mi Casa Es Su Casa

When you meet Leonne, you instantly like her. She is genuine, fun, and she just radiates kindness. I feel like I can be my complete self around Leonne.  She accepts people for who they are, and she is a thoughtful and patient mom. I feel very blessed and grateful to call Leonne a friend. […]

I got to chat a bit with Leonne at the pool this summer after we’d just moved here. It was partly because of her that I thought people in Corvallis are very friendly. So neat that she has a foster child in her home. Two foster children in my home growing up became siblings!!

Jacqueline - November 9, 2011 - 11:08 am

What a nice interview! I love Leonne dearly and I’m overjoyed that she has made some very good friends in Corvallis. Hopefully our family will be making the move from CA soon. xoxo

Your gain is my loss. When the family moved from next door
I missed them so and I still miss them, but am so happy she
has found great happiness and has such a fulfilling life.

What a great job! I’d love to do something like that, if we had it here. Again, you know some amazing women!!

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: State Representative Sara Gelser

I first heard about Sara Gelser from Chris when she was a member of the school board and he was teaching at Linus Pauling Middle School. Whether or not they were on the same side of an issue, Chris always admired Sara as a politician and person. Chris says that Sara is respectful, a good […]

When I first started reading this interview I thought I wouldn’t be that interested, because I don’t live in your area (or country :) )and I’m not that interested in politics, but it was a great interview. I really appreciated a lot of what Sara had to say! I love when she said that how you lose is just as important as how you win. What a great thing to teach our kids!!

Camille - September 21, 2011 - 10:03 pm

I recognized the name, but this was great to hear more of Rep. Gelser’s story. I used to be more politically active in my teens and early 20s, but I’ve been feeling a little out of the loop in more recent years. I’m really glad to know that I have a good advocate and a good mom working on my behalf. Thanks, Sara and thanks to Kara for introducing her.
