I love when there are garage sales in or around my neighborhood, that way I can just check them out when we’re on a walk, rather than making a special trip. Last weekend we found a Sandra Boynton board book for just 25 cents! She is one of our favorite children’s authors so this was a great find for us (especially considering the books cost around $8 new). By best score was a $150 authentic all wood Bocce set for $10. But, I’m kind of over garage sales. I am more of a Craigslist person. The stuff seems to be better quality, you know the price up front, and you can shop or sell from your couch. You don’t get the SUPER good deals, but I got a Pump in Style for $50, a Moby for $20, tons of cloth diapers, etc. Every time I do a garage sale, I spend two days setting up and tearing down and make about $50. But, I sold about $1500 worth of stuff on Craigslist when we moved to Corvallis all out of my garage. I love CL! May 26, 2011 - 1:33 pm
My favorite garage sale find was Hazel’s brand new condition highchair for $5 and her baby gym for $2. I think I saved over $50. I love Craigslist and the best story I have is that I was selling my brand new medela pump in style and no one would bite, so I lowered the price well below what I knew I could get because I needed the money. Sure enough a woman called and asked why I was selling it so low. I told her and she said she wanted it for her newborn son who had a cleft palette and couldn’t feed from the breast. I felt so good about selling it low price to her, but when her husband showed up he gave me $60 extra dollars! May 26, 2011 - 2:53 pm

Love the deals you got! I’m not into garage sale-ing very much, because it often ends up being a lot of work for very little end result. But a couple of weeks ago we got 2 bikes and 2 scooters for $65, which may not sound like a great deal, but it was. I love second hand shopping more than garage sales though!! I usually have to bring my kids since Chris has weddings most saturdays in the summer.. which means I will probably be doing less garage saling this summer. I adore your coat…you always look sophisticated in it. I also rely on a raincoat…mine is orange, so it is quite popular in Corvallis! I’ve received compliments on it as far away as Seattle. Shoes and sunglasses for me. I’m really not great at putting clothes together so I usually stick with t-shirts, jeans, etc. and I do not wear make up. In order to feel girly or glam I get fun sunglasses and shoes. I cried the day I threw away my pink sunglasses, literally. I couldn’t see out of them anymore they were so scratched up. Is it me, or are the “mom jeans” not a far cry from skinny jeans? I mean, wear a long top and I don’t think that many people would know the difference! So, Kara, I say go for it! Ha-ha! In a similar vein, now that I’m on the other side of motherhood, I see the merits of elastic waistbands! I always wondered why there was that specific section in department stores dedicated to pantalones with the bunched stretchy stuff, and at what point to women bridge over to that section? Then, I bought my first pair of maternity pants. The heavens opened, and I saw the light – elastic waistbands are awesome!! I wore those jeans with the thick elastic waistband for as long as I could justify them because they were so darn comfortable. Alas, all of the maternity pants are stuffed away in storage, but I look forward to unpacking them someday. Getting back to your question, I sadly have no suggestions. I really like Maurices Taylor boot-cut jeans (they are in the teens sections of the store). The waist is high enough and they come in dark wash so they look somewhat dressy so I can wear them to work April 5, 2011 - 9:32 am
I can NOT pull off skinny jeans or leggings and a tunic. Not flattering on my pear shape. But here in Canada we have a store that carries some jeans that have a wide waistband with some stretch that are very much like some maternity pants. They are awesome!! No zipper and it’s a wide so it holds in some of that tummy. Not ALL of it, but it definitely lessens the muffin top. I don’t know what I’d do without them. Oh, and by the way, most of the time I don’t even bother with jeans. I wear yoga pants almost everyday. I’ve 2 pairs of some fairly expensive ones that I love. They have been worth every penny because I can wear them all through my pregnancies (and I get huge) and anytime after. Anything that can make my butt look that good post baby is heaven sent!! I find it pretty entertaining, since I feel like I am going through so many of the same things…mom jeans, frustrated..and not answering cell phones….Your kids are so adorable!!!! I’m sure that all of you ladies have a bra that you prefer over all others. I never realized how attached I was to my Victoria Secret Body bra until I lost it for a few days.
