The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: Leonne Bannister-Mi Casa Es Su Casa

When you meet Leonne, you instantly like her. She is genuine, fun, and she just radiates kindness. I feel like I can be my complete self around Leonne.  She accepts people for who they are, and she is a thoughtful and patient mom. I feel very blessed and grateful to call Leonne a friend....

I got to chat a bit with Leonne at the pool this summer after we’d just moved here. It was partly because of her that I thought people in Corvallis are very friendly. So neat that she has a foster child in her home. Two foster children in my home growing up became siblings!!

Jacqueline - November 9, 2011 - 11:08 am

What a nice interview! I love Leonne dearly and I’m overjoyed that she has made some very good friends in Corvallis. Hopefully our family will be making the move from CA soon. xoxo

Your gain is my loss. When the family moved from next door
I missed them so and I still miss them, but am so happy she
has found great happiness and has such a fulfilling life.

adrienne w - November 10, 2011 - 3:37 pm

What a great job! I’d love to do something like that, if we had it here. Again, you know some amazing women!!

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: State Representative Sara Gelser

I first heard about Sara Gelser from Chris when she was a member of the school board and he was teaching at Linus Pauling Middle School. Whether or not they were on the same side of an issue, Chris always admired Sara as a politician and person. Chris says that Sara is respectful, a good...

When I first started reading this interview I thought I wouldn’t be that interested, because I don’t live in your area (or country :) )and I’m not that interested in politics, but it was a great interview. I really appreciated a lot of what Sara had to say! I love when she said that how you lose is just as important as how you win. What a great thing to teach our kids!!

Camille - September 21, 2011 - 10:03 pm

I recognized the name, but this was great to hear more of Rep. Gelser’s story. I used to be more politically active in my teens and early 20s, but I’ve been feeling a little out of the loop in more recent years. I’m really glad to know that I have a good advocate and a good mom working on my behalf. Thanks, Sara and thanks to Kara for introducing her.

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: Adrienne Standridge-Sweet as Honey

Adrienne and Tessa next to a bee colony. All of these pictures were taken right on Adrienne’s property. Some beautiful Foxglove! My favorite picture that Chris took of Adrienne and Nathan. Adrienne is one of my closest friends in Corvallis. She is one of the first people who I call when I am happy, sad,...

She’s the coolest. You forgot to mention that she’s the best mom around for encouraging creativity. When Trevor goes to the Standridge house, he wants to stay forever.

Leonne - August 3, 2011 - 10:08 am

What a great interview! Adrienne, I admire your homesteading talents. You’re a wonderful mama and friend. :-)

Marianne - August 3, 2011 - 11:00 am

Hello, can we please talk about how hot Adrienne is? Yes, Kara her laugh is contagious. Oh and let’s not forget Nathan was in Seventeen magazine back in the day…

Sunny - August 3, 2011 - 2:01 pm

I love that when I’m around Adrienne I know we will laugh. Not just a few ha ha laughs, I mean full belly busting, eyes tearing up laughs. Thanks Adrienne! Thanks for sharing her with us Kara!

Wendy M. - August 4, 2011 - 12:06 am

Adrienne is such a kind person. She’s very accomplished and yet she’s extremely modest and probably not even aware that she’s incredibly amazing to everyone around her. I love listening to her tell a story…you can tell when her laugh is about to surface (and to echo everyone else, she has the best laugh!) Great interview!

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: Alice Rampton-Building a beautiful community and family

Note the lovely twinkle in those eyes. If you have lived in Corvallis for a long time, there is a good chance that you know or have at least heard of the Rampton family (Sofia was delivered by Alice’s husband). Alice Rampton is an intelligent, beautiful, funny, and loving woman who has done so much...

Oh I love Alice! That was simply a joy to read. I feel like I could have written my own letter of how Alice has touched my life and been so very influential for me in the short time I have known her. What a lucky girl I am to have her as my Corvallis Mom.

Abby Bain - July 27, 2011 - 8:53 am

Love this! I don’t know Alice well but I know her husband and I figured he must have an amazing wife to support and allow him to do the amazing work he does! Yay Alice!

Anna - July 27, 2011 - 9:09 am

This was such a treat to read Kara! Thanks for sharing!

Julia - July 27, 2011 - 1:15 pm

What a great article about such a wonderful lady. I grew up around the corner from the Rampton’s and was friends with their children. Every time I entered their home I felt loved and a part of something fun and exciting. Alice is an amazing women and she and Mark raised some pretty spectacular children. Great post!

Rachel Griffith - July 27, 2011 - 11:31 pm

How come I wasn’t asked to write something? After all, I’m one of her kids too! At least, she and her big beautiful family have always made me feel that way. Alice and Mark took me in during a very dark period in my life. What impact that one act of charity has done for me! Alice has always made time for me, sat down, made full eye contact and given me her undivided attention. She never made me feel like she was too busy-and she could very well be the busiest woman I know. I am just one of I’m sure hundreds of stories. Alice is one of a kind, a beam of light for more than her own generation. Her influence was described above-and I’m telling you…there’s more, there’s way more. If we could all be a little more, and it would only have to be just a little bit more like this superb woman-by golly-the evil of the world wouldn’t stand a chance! Thank you for your hilarious sense of humor, immense love for others, over the top commitment to service and refreshing honesty. Indeed, Alice is the real deal.

Adrienne S - July 31, 2011 - 5:35 pm

What a beautiful post. I knew Dr.Rampton must have an spectacular wife and family. I have to admit, I got a little misty reading this. Really awe inspiring. I hope my kids say things like that about me when they are grown.

Amanda - August 4, 2011 - 9:01 am

I loved the pictures will all the kids trying to squirm loose lol. http://www.justonemore4us.blogspot.com

The Real Housewives of Benton County Present: Cooking it up with Juliette Mulholland

Juliette with her adorable and fun family. There are many different levels of ability when it comes to cooking and baking. There are people who know pretty much nothing and get take out or cook completely out of boxes. Next, there are people who may cook a tiny bit but still rely on processed food...

Lovely interview and gorgeous photos! I’m so glad you liked the Massaged Kale Salad, it’s one of my favorites too :) ~Tricia

Sunny - July 20, 2011 - 10:17 am

I’ve sampled some of Juliette’s fare and agree that it is quite good! I’ve just started branching out from recipes and my mom’s hand me down tried and trues. I’ve been trying to find new and easier ways to use dried beans, like making my own refried pinto and black beans. I really like to make my kid’s birthday cakes too! I think I may have peaked for Grace’s fifth birthday though, she wants the same thing this year!

carolina amador - July 20, 2011 - 12:37 pm

I am so jealous of Juliette’s cooking skills! And she is such a relaxed, down to earth mama too!

betsy - July 20, 2011 - 10:12 pm

Juliette is an amazing cook for sure. I feel privileged to eat at her home whenever I’m invited. Sometimes I even invite myself.

Adrienne S - July 31, 2011 - 5:43 pm

How did I miss this post? Juliette is so funny about her cooking, if she makes something and you say, “is it good or was it good?” She’ll say, “It was alright.” Then you taste it and omg it is g-r-e-a-t. She downplays all her cooking. Perfect modesty. Then I make something and I say, “wow, try this it’s great!” and she says, “don’t talk it up so much.” HAahahah! I’m need to learn her modesty. Ask her for her Marshmallow recipe!
