Lost: One Victoria Secret Body Bra Reward: A piece of Gum

I’m sure that all of you ladies have a bra that you prefer over all others. I never realized how attached I was to my Victoria Secret Body bra until I lost it for a few days. I was so bugged by the bra I was wearing today (like seriously.. it was driving me nuts) […]

Glad it was found. I can barely survive when my favorite bra is in the laundry for a day.
I saw you comment on my blog about the Spanish. Steve only speaks Spanish to the kids, has since Betty was born. Her Spanish is pretty good. She prefers to speak English to both of us, but if pressed will speak Spanish. Sometimes she forgets an English word and that is usually when she speaks Spanish voluntarily. We have lots of kids books in Spanish too. The “If you give a mouse a cookie” series has really good translations into Spanish.

The skinny on getting skinny

My awesome friend Amanda left her husband and two kids in Utah last week and came to visit me solo  for a few days. Let me tell you.. she is a true friend. She left her family to come and hang out with my family. It’s not like we could party it up as I […]

Anita - March 28, 2011 - 8:36 am

What just happened to my post? Weird…too much work to write it down again just know that it wasn’t good and now I feel more accountable and next time will be better:)

kara - March 28, 2011 - 9:26 am

Way to write it down Anita!! What I can read between the jibberish (I have no idea why t is doing that?) doesn’t look too bad at all! We should i chat some time during the day this week and chat!!

Amanda - March 28, 2011 - 12:48 pm

Just know…I felt like a big dork during this “photo shoot.” Glad to have some of both of us though, Kara. And as far as friends go, you are the best of the bunch and I know you would do the same! Thanks for everything. I hope the drive home wasn’t too painful with Miriam being hungry. :(

Spring is Here!

Me getting dirty in the garden planting some peas and carrots. The garden was so muddy, so I am a little worried about my little seeds. I also have potatoes to plant , but I need to figure out how to plant potatoes. Do you all know how many of the little eye things need […]

More beautiful pictures! I was checking your blog to get ideas for dinner (at 530 on a Sunday no less.) Now I just want to go plant 200 more daffodils.

EmmaJ - March 27, 2011 - 6:55 pm

I love Sophia playing in the daffodils. Such a pretty picture. Good luck with your potatoes. I decided they are going to be added to my garden next year, so please post how yours do.

Krista - March 28, 2011 - 8:32 am

We did the square foot gardening thing last year and it’s pretty low maintenace:
and plan on doing it again this year. My only advice for the potatoes is to give them plenty of room because they get huge! I had to pull mine out because they were overtaking everything!

Krista - March 28, 2011 - 8:37 am

Me again…you can see here the potatoes taking over the entire garden…

Love your blog, thanks for sharing!

kara - March 28, 2011 - 9:32 am

I’m kind of stressing about my garden. It is so flippin muddy out there, I am hesitant to plant anything else until it dries out a bit. Krista, I have totally stalked your blog and love it :). Thanks for the potato advice…. do you remember around how many you planted? I just have no concept of how many it would take to have them take over?

Missy - March 28, 2011 - 6:31 pm

I did potatoes last year for the first time. I think it was 3 or 4 eyes…and they were super easy! Plus they’re really fun to harvest since you can’t see them…it’s a surprise! :)
PS – Amanda is an inspiration. I loved the Q & A.

Krista - March 28, 2011 - 7:52 pm

We did 2 squares of potatoes, and planted 4 in each square. We learned doing the square foot gardening that tomatoes, tomatillos and potatoes do not belong in a square foot garden! Do you have a Maritime Northwest Planting Chart? According to this, there isn’t a ton of stuff to be planted in March. More in April. We will probably wait until late April/early May to plant ours depending on the weather. Come on sunshine!

adrienne w - March 28, 2011 - 9:45 pm

Again… I am jealous. Seeing your beautiful spring weather makes me want to cry. We still have snow. It’s SLOWLY melting, but since we’re moving even further north, I feel very depressed by this spring stuff. P.S. Your kids are beautiful!!

Just Babies

There is nothing cuter in the world than a sleeping baby. Especially when they are sleeping on you. Seriously, I dare someone to try to think of something cuter. Even with good ol’ baby acne, this baby is a doll (a doll with enormously chubby cheeks). I am knocking on wood as I type, but […]

Barak woke up 2-5 times every single night until he was 15 months old and I cut off the milk supply. Two nights later he was peacefully sleeping 12 hours straight, and I kicked myself for not trying harder to get him to do it sooner, because I’m pretty sure he could have. On the other hand, despite how tired I was, I secretly loved our snuggle times. Sometimes when I check the kids at night, I still want to pick them up and cuddle them.

Josh - March 25, 2011 - 10:54 am

I think you found the key. Just make the best of what you got. My wife is like some sort of super hero that just does what she has to do and doesn’t get caught in the “if only” situation. That seems to be how she emerges happy. Hats off to all the super hero mamas out there!!

10 by Memorial Day Challenge

Do any of you need to lose 10 pounds? I have a bit more than that to lose, but I have decided that I will focus on 10 pounds right now. Who would like to join me in losing 10 pounds by Memorial Day? That is not even quite 1 pound a week. We can […]

adrienne w - March 23, 2011 - 3:50 pm

I would love to join you one this, but I don’t to frustrate myself. I don’t lose weight when I’m nursing and I’m afraid if I try with a numbers goal in mind, I’ll just be disappointed. Plus, we’re moving in 3 weeks and I know that I don’t need anything else to think about. I am trying to form healthier habits and get into better routines, which should work better when we have some sense of normalcy after the move and Denver starts working again. There are my lame excuses!! I’ll cheer you on though.

Katrina - March 23, 2011 - 6:17 pm

I’d do it, too, if I weren’t pregnant. Maybe I should make it my goal not to GAIN more than 10 pounds by Memorial Day.

kara - March 23, 2011 - 6:41 pm

You definitely have enough on your plate right now. I also have the same problem of clinging on to weight while I nurse, so we shall see how this goes, but I would love your support!
Did I know you were pregnant?? I can’t remember… so many babies these days, but congrats!!! How far along are you??

Anita - March 23, 2011 - 8:22 pm

I need to start looking at your blog everyday! Please promise to give me a dose of laughter everyday by posting things like your nursing under the table picture. It will help me to remember to do my kegel exercises so I don’t pee my pants from laughing!

On the note of loosing weight. I am trying not to be jealous you only have 13 pounds to loose. I still have 20:( And I had Aila a month before Miriam came:( So I will join you. But that first means I must step on scale….

Lyndi - March 23, 2011 - 9:06 pm

K girl, I’m in! Be ready for my journal…

Katrina - March 24, 2011 - 10:11 am

21 weeks. And I mostly just look fat.

kara - March 24, 2011 - 9:29 pm

Oh Anita, I will do my best to give you laughs with my craziness. Thanks for the reminder about Kegals, I need to be doing those too.
Lyndi, do you have 10 pounds to lose? I have a very hard time imagining that, but I will be ready for your journal. I want everyone to report back of what they eat on Sunday!!
You don’t find out what you are having do you?
Alright ladies… here we go!!!

Amy - March 28, 2011 - 11:51 am

Ok Kara, I’m joining in late here but I so need to lose 10+ pounds! I have no excuses except laziness. Natalie is 18 mo. and I’m not nursing. Jonas’s preschool topic 2 weeks ago was on healthy eating and exercise, so he is constantly asking if “x” is healthy for you. Really makes me think and watch my food intake in front of the kids!
Making a food journal – that will be the tough thing to do. Any recommendations for iPod food journal apps?

Jill Harpham - March 28, 2011 - 5:54 pm

Kara I don’t know if you remember me from KFalls 3rd ward. I would like to join your quest to lose weight. I have definitely put on the weight this past year. I would love any help that you could give me because I LOVE TO EAT!

Missy - March 28, 2011 - 6:37 pm

I’m late too, but can I still join? I’m already trying, so this will help motivate me!
I sometimes use for a food/exercise journal. They have a free ipod app with tons of food in their database.

Rachel - March 28, 2011 - 8:55 pm

I’m in! I am the biggest (by 10 pounds) that I have ever been in my life not counting pregnancy. I have about 30 to lose, but will be happy with less. I just need to start trending down. I literally have not lost a SINGLE pound since coming home from the hospital. In fact, I’ve gained 10. :( But, I started a food journal on and my goal is to start moving at some point every day, even if it is just a stroller walk with The Boy. I am only weighing in once a week, and tomorrow is my day. I will try to let you know how I’m doing. We can make this a virtual WW. (By the way, thanks for the interview with your friend. It was just what I needed to read tonight!)

kara - March 28, 2011 - 9:26 pm

I’m so glad that all of you ladies will be joining. Corvallis people, how about a early morning weekend hike every week? We could do bald hill??

Margaret - March 30, 2011 - 9:35 pm

Oh boy, I have a lot of posts to catch up on. I’m not good at blogging or checking blogs. But I love that you are doing this. And so funny that these are your before pics. HA! You look so good in them. Having kids puts things in perspective though…the flab on my belly falls completely off my radar with everything else going on. So, I don’t own a scale but I have been eating a lot lately, like constantly grazing. So hows about I just focus on my eating and doing my exercises and join you in that way?

kara - March 30, 2011 - 10:05 pm

Sounds good Margaret! I’ve had a couple of other people who have emailed me who aren’t worried about needing to lose weight, but just to be more fit!
