Sofia Update

  • As you can see, we are still struggling in the hair brushing department a little bit. I brush and do Sofia’s hair every day before school, but she usually messes up or takes out whatever I do. I have vague memories of doing the same thing when my mom did my hair, so I guess it is just pay back. Who knows, maybe Sofia sport dread locks someday, and then the hair brushing drama will end.
  • Sofia expresses herself very well. The other day she peed her pants for the first time in years. When I asked her why she peed her pants, she said, “Well Mother (it always makes me laugh when she calls me mother.. dont’ know where she picked that up from), I had no choice. Every time I am playing with a toy that is really special to me, Gabe always takes it from me when I leave it to go to the bathroom. I don’t know what else to do.” I told her that I could see how that would be frustrating, but that there has to be a solution we can think of that does not involve peeing her pants.
  • Sofia broke my heart the other day when while getting her ready for school she said, “I don’t want to go to school today. I miss being with my family.” We really do miss her too during the day, but we are always so happy to pick her up (especially Gabe). One of Sofia’s teachers said that she is always smiling and participating, so that made me feel good to know that even though she comes home grumpy and tired most days, she is happy while she is at school.

Aww. I go throught the same thing with Ruth – the hairbrushing frustration AND the I-miss-home-when-I’m-at-school. It’s such a strange feeling to be away from her all morning when we’ve been together pretty much 24/7 for four years.

Glad there will be other rag-a-muffins running around this town :)
