Happy Summer!!

It’s time to play catch up friends. I have been so busy living my life, that I haven’t been able to squeeze in time to write about it. These pictures are all from our time at the coast last week. We stayed at a beach house for the 4th. Our niece Kira came along with us, and the Standridge family spent the 4th with us. I really needed that time with my family. Here are quick updates on each of us:

Chris: Anyone who knows us well knows that summer is insanely busy for a photographer. Chris is super busy again, and he is really enjoying it. He has been doing home improvement projects on our house. He put bamboo int he kid’s rooms and tiled one of the bathrooms and the mudroom. He also just got called to be the group leader for our Spanish church group in Corvallis, and he is really excited! We have been attending church in Spanish for the last 6 months, and it has been great. I feel a little bad for people who have to endure my Spanish during the lessons I teach, but all in all, it has been a great experience. Chris is a total booty kicking go getter. He does a great job of making as much time for us as possible, and he has been spending way more time with the kids with me working more.

Kara: In case anyone missed it, I have been working at OSU for the past few months. I work as a nutrition educator for the Linus Pauling Institute-Healthy Youth Program. I just went from 30 hours to 19 at work, and I am so happy. I am for now giving up benefits, so now we will be living with crappy insurance for awhile, but I was just having too hard of a time being way from the kids for 30 hours a week. I think that 19 hours a week will be a much better balance for us at this stage in life. I am really liking my job so far. I still feel like I have so much to learn, but I have loved the the families that I teach, and I work with really great people. I have just been trying to find balance and figure out new routines for our family over the last couple of months, and I feel like things are starting to come together. Oh and I also keep having thoughts and feelings about being a foster parent. I definitely need to get Chris on board if that is ever going to happen, so we shall see if that ends up being a good choice for our family.

Sofia: Sofia is growing so much. I can’t believe that she will be baptized in November. She is still loving to read all of the time. I have to force her to go to bed at night, because she will stay up and read as late as possible. She has also really been getting really great at riding longer distances on her bike. She has made several bike rides to the library with Chris, which is probably almost 8 miles round trip. Sofia and Gabe fight a ton right now, and that is one thing that is totally driving me crazy right now.

Gabe: You know summer has hit when Gabe spends literally 3-4 hours a day swinging outside. I worry for my little guy starting full day kindergarten. Gabe without lots of down time to day dream and play may not work well, at least at first.  He also struggles with listening, so it will be good for me to give his teacher a little pep talk. He is such an amazing kid, and I want him to have a great first year of school. If there were ever a kid that I wish we could afford Waldorf for, it would be Gabe. Gabe has started to become a pickier and pickier eater, and it is driving us a little crazy around here. He still eats a lot of healthy foods, but he is adding more and more things to his “no way” list. I am sure that he will outgrow this someday if we keep offering healthy choices, but it does worry me a little bit. Gabe loves music a lot. He is always getting the greatest songs stuck in his head. Today he has been going around singing, “Even though we ain’t got money, I’m so in love with ya honey.” What a character.

Miriam: Miriam is probably the biggest booty shaker out of all of us. Any time music come  on, I can just anticipate her little body moving within a few seconds. We have startred the potty training process this week. It seems like it will be more complicated with me working now, but the job will get done eventually. I am also more laid back with it each time, which I’m sure helps. Don’t mistake more laid back with enjoying though. Potty training is a pain but most be done. Miriam is a friendly little gal. Anytime I tell her we are going somewhere she says without fail. “Will my friends be there? ” When she says that, I’m pretty sure that she doesn’t have anyone in mind. She just plans on making anyone she meets her friend.

That is it for now friends!

Yay for an update! I love that Oregon coast so much! We should plan to meet you guys for a few days next summer there. So what exactly is Chris’ new calling? Are you guys going to a Spanish Branch or Ward or is it just a group within a regular ward? So fun that you are attending in Spanish.
